So, we are starting to think about our characters for our next campaign, which most likely will be OOtA, and I was thinking of creating a Circle of Spores druid and having him be a Duergar. I like the idea from a thematic perspective, the campaign being based in the underdark, duergar will be common, but also using the enlarge/reduce spell by having him pluck off a mushroom growing on him and eating it, ala Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
However, doing some reading, I'm not sure Duergar are the best for Circle of Spores from a mechanical perspective. Using the duergar race options from Monsters of the Multiverse, would running a duergar Circle of Spores druid be a viable choice or would the mechanics of the race/class combo outweigh the thematics and I would be better off going with a different race?
This is a pretty combination as long as the Enlarge spell doesn't make you an easier target. The spores being invisible also works with your innate Invisibility spell that Duergar get. So as long as long as you don't fight ranged attackers, it's pretty good.
