Ok in my monthly game I'm playing a druid, but I'm not sure how to roleplay a semi-serious druid who is seeking to bring back his dryad wife. I know how to play loss but I'm trying to figure out how to play a druid who so far in the story has not been in nature.
So far we have been locked in a prison for no known reason, in a town where we made friends, and finally on a crashing boat... Not exactly a set piece of nature aside from the ocean.
As an adventurer, you don't have necessarily to be always in nature. As a druid, during your adventurers you will always try to defend nature (animals, plants) and its equilibrium. For example, you can go against PC or NPC that during sails hunt dolphins.
I think you gave the bext explanation already in your opening. Your backstory is really all you need to make that explanation. Someone who was married to a dryad to me has an obvious mental and emotional connection to the natural world. Lets take for granted that you lived with her in a wooded glade, what happened? How did she die? What brought you to the prison?
On the flipside you could be an urban dweller who had no real connection to nature until you met and fell in love with a Dryad. She changed your life and was teaching you about her world (perhaps she was your instructor in Druidcraft). And then we go back to the question: What happened to get you from there to where you are now?
Maybe you don't know and finding out is part of the adventure?
I have one A character that has completely lost his memory but the only thing he knows is he was a fighter. You could go a similar route like JdV said and have it be that he doesn't know how he ended up there during the search!! Sounds fun nonetheless though!
Cant wait to hear more about it!
