13 =Moon Druid HP lvl 2 + (Highest HP for CR1 = giant octopus =52) 52 =Wild Shape CR1 HP + 52 =Wild Shape CR1 HP + 3-24 = 3d8 of spell slot Healing
=120-141 HP
(Dire wolf = 90-111 HP) (Giant Hyena = 106-127 HP) . . . . Character level 3
12 =Barbarian HP lvl 1 10 =Moon Druid HP lvl 2 + (Highest HP for CR1 = giant octopus =52) 52 =Wild Shape CR1 HP + 52 =Wild Shape CR1 HP + 3-24 =3d8 of spell slot Healing
=129-150HP
(Dire Wolf = 99-120 HP) (Giant Hyena = 115-136 HP)
If all that damage was from bludgeoning/piercing/slashing then it 1/2 damage or essentially x2 HP worth of damage =258-300 HP
(Dire Wolf = 198-240 HP) (Giant Hyena = 230-272 HP) . . . . Character level 6
12 =Barbarian HP lvl 1 10 =Moon Druid HP lvl 2 15 =Warlock HP lvl 3 + (Highest HP for CR1 = giant octopus =52) 52 =Wild Shape CR1 HP + 52 =Wild Shape CR1 HP + 56 =7d8 of spell slot Healing (Now with max healing rolled)
=197 HP
(Dire Wolf = 167 HP) (Giant Hyena = 183 HP)
If all that damage was from bludgeoning/piercing/slashing then it 1/2 damage or essentially x2 HP worth of damage =394HP
(Dire Wolf = 334 HP) (Giant Hyena = 366 HP) . . . . Character level 8
26 =Barbarian HP lvl 3 10 =Moon Druid HP lvl 2 15 =Warlock HP lvl 3 + (Highest HP for CR1 = giant octopus =52) 52 =Wild Shape CR1 HP + 52 =Wild Shape CR1 HP + 56 =7d8 of spell slot Healing (Now max healing gained)
=211 HP
(Dire Wolf = 181 HP) (Giant Hyena = 197 HP)
Now 1/2 damage from ALL sources except psychic, or essentially x2 HP worth of damage =422 HP
(Dire Wolf = 362 HP) (Giant Hyena = 394 HP) . . . . Character level 12
26 =Barbarian HP lvl 3 33 =Moon Druid HP lvl 6 = CR 2 +attacks are magical 15 =Warlock HP lvl 3 + (Highest HP for CR2 = giant constrictor snake =60) 60 =Wild Shape CR2 HP + 60 =Wild Shape CR2 HP + 184 =23d8 of spell slot Healing (Now max healing gained)
=378 HP
Now 1/2 damage from ALL sources except psychic, or essentially x2 HP worth of damage =756 HP
(for a giant constrictor snake…. don’t know if it can be mounted though….. 724 HP for the next highest HP creature that can be mounted. Saber-Toothed Tiger) . . . . Using Rage, both Wild Shapes, all spell slots, and base druid HP, thats 756 damage needed to kill this level 12 build.
One factor is an octopus cant breathe air, sure it can hold its breath but when you transform into one you don't get Octopus with added water.
Your looking at a lot of building toward a goal that makes levelling through the early stages a barrel of pain. (not a consideration if your talking about starting at your optimum level but darn it play that stitched together ugly thing first)
If you are talking about theoretical maximum survival, then moon druid 20 is 126 hits a round or so, so that's 1260 a minute, one level in another class prevents that, add that to your calculation.
Healing using spell slots in animal form is less effective than if the spell was cast, sure if your raging, or don't want to break form you do it to keep the form sometimes, its better if you cast healing spirit instead and it heals you whilst you go nuts. (resilient con a good idea in this case)
The bigger the animals HD pool the bigger the shortrest HD pool it has, take that direwolf short rest and blow all them, that's another fight ready to go (as long as your wildshape lasts more than a couple of hours) when your out of hp? Dire wolf again and again if necessary as your wildshape uses recharged in that same short rest. (3 wolves one combat)
None of this is what makes moon druids supremely objectionable. (and almost unkillable) Remember, moon druids never sleep.

Hello all,
I’ve been brainstorming a new character and since I’m rather new to all this I’d like some second thoughts on this damage sponge build.
(This is a copy/paste from a different forum so please overlook if the spacing is all wonky)
Variables to consider:
.
.
.
.
— Druid —
-Wild Shape HP x2 (per short rest)
-Healing 1d8 per level of the spell slot used, while in wild shape form as a bonus action.
.
.
.
.
— +Barbarian multiclass —
-lvl 1 rage= resistance ,AKA 1/2 damage, to bludgeoning, piercing, slashing,
AKA x2 HP if damage is only of these types
-lvl 3 bear totem rage resistance ,AKA 1/2 damage, to ALL DAMAGE types except physic, AKA x2 HP if damage is not physic.
.
.
.
.
— +Warlock multiclass —
-Great old One for telepathy while in wild shape
-lvl 3 pact of the chain + gift of the ever-living ones = Max Dice numbers rolled from healing sources.
.
.
.
.
So to add things up....
Character(s) HP (no Con modifier factored in)
+
Wild Shape 1 HP
+
Wild Shape 2 HP
+
Max Healing from spell slots w/Gift of the Ever-living Ones
=X/HP
If all damage was taken while bear totem raging its 1/2 damage from all types but physic, AKA HP x 2
X/HP x2
=?

Am I adding all this up correctly?
Are there other factors to consider?
