Hoping you can help me: I'm playing a Level 4 Scout (Rogue) and I'm going to take my next level as a Druid (eventually Circle of the Land). I currently have the Skulker and Athlete feats. His stats are STR 8, DEX 20, CON 12, INT 8, WIS 14, and CHA 8.
Mechanically I've been warm off from taking this multiclass from a lot of people, but I'm all about then roleplay and fun, and I'm not interested in doing the min-max approach. This Druid dip meets my character's backstory so I'm totally looking forward to it.
The reason I'm posting hear is to ask your advice about cantrips and spell choices - what would you recommend? We have a Mastermind and Monk of the Open Hand in the party as well. I've done some research, and I'm thinking Druidcraft, Guidance and Produce Flame for cantrips (once i get that bonus cantrip). Then Entangle, Healing Word and Speak with Animals (though I recognise I can adjust these daily). I love creativity and options, so I'd love to hear you right creative use some of spells too!
You have made a great choice to multiclass into everyone’s favorite spell casting class...Sorry Warlocks! IMHO multiclass is never a bad idea as long as you don’t spread yourself too thin. Thematically, Scout and Druid goes together like peas and carrots!
As for spells: Druidcraft and Guidance are great options. As for Produce Flame, you are likely to do more damage and hit more often at a greater range with your longbow. Maybe consider Thunderclap or Thorn Whip instead.
Healing Word and Entangle are great choices. I’d also consider Faerie Fire to give you and your party advantage on attacks (hello sneak attack!).
I'm guessing human variant (you list 2 feats at lvl 4), produce flame is my favorite light spell and that is probably why you took it. I would take druidcraft as your bonus cantrip so your druid-ness all kicks in at second level druid ie shapechange and spell recovery.
As for spells good berry is very scout like, you scouted ahead and found some very specific berries. Fog cloud can be used as cover to sneak past something or from arrows and no saving throw helps your lower wis score.
Cheers halfling2099! I'm actually dropping Produce Flame for now - might take it at Druid Lvl 4 (though my heart wants Frostbite!). Anyone used Frostbite and found it effective?
Goodberry has been recommended but I think our party needs Healing Word for in combat healing (and I don't want all my spells to be taken up with healing!). Fog Cloud could be an interesting choice, especially as there's no save.
However, we have mentioned the spells that are recommended often - has anyone got any experience of succeeding using the lesser recommended ones well? I'd love to learn from people's experiences of playing a Druid!
Good 1st Level spell selections too. Have you ever used any of the spells creatively?
Entangle then Ice Knife. Attack rolls against restrained creatures have advantage. They also have disadvantage on Dexterity saving throws. If you're lucky you might be able to Entangle more than 1 target w/n 5' for additional exploding ice damage. Plus Ice Knife can be cast at higher levels for more damage.
Don't forget to turn all your "leftover" spells slots in Goodberries before a long rest...assumming you have spell slots left.
