So I’m probably being dumb here, but I was wondering why my ritual spells for my druid are taking up spell slots in dndbeyond, but in my other campaign with a wizard they don’t? They both have the same thing written with regards to ritual spells, does anybody know why please?
You can cast a druid spell as a ritual if that spell has the ritual tag and you have the spell prepared.
Wizard Rituals:
Ritual Casting
You can cast a wizard spell as a ritual if that spell has the ritual tag and you have the spell in your spellbook. You don’t need to have the spell prepared.
Druids need to have the spell prepared. Wizards do not.
Thank you! Knew I was just being dumb! But I guess a follow up question is why have them? If they take a spell slot anyway what’s the point? Unless they don’t use a spell slot to cast maybe? You just have to have it prepared
Ah I misunderstood your original question. Yes, you can cast them as a ritual - meaning you take 10 minutes longer to cast than the spell's base casting time - to cast them without using a spell slot.
For example you could cast Speak with Animals as an action, which would expend a spell slot, or you could take 10 minutes + 1 action to cast it as a ritual, and not expend a spell slot.
You still have to have them prepared to do so, unlike the Wizard.
