Hello all! I am working on a desert themed druid. I would love to hear any ideas on class, feat and spell options that would go well with this theme. I am going variant human (I must be human per the DM) and have rolled stats (18,17,16,14,13,11). Thanks for any and all suggestions.
Well, this is great. Put your 18 into wisdom, and then 17 into dex or con. Then 16 into the other one. I would say that desert druids might be more dextrous, to stay on the sand. Then you can do the last three as you see fit. Plus one to dex and wisdom. For the feat, I like the idea of taking spell sniper or alert. Some people would say warcaster, but I think we can wait a few levels. For subclass, circle of land is decent, but wildfire seems very fun to play for this. At level 4, put plus one into wisdom and anything else. Then you can take dex to 20. Some good spells are those that can be reflavoured, like sleet storm, but also ones that make sense for desert dwellers, like goodberry, create food and water. Then any others that fit your idea.

I can see so many great synergies for different Druidic circles. I would probably go Circle of the Land (Desert) because it’s so perfectly thematic and I’d be very tempted by the Keen Mind feat because of how well that would help survive in the desert..
That may not be optimized perfectly, but it’s thematic for a Druid who lives in the desert.
I made a really fun circle of land (Coast) character that is middle-eastern inspired. He's more of a pirate type, very boisterous and cocky, and talks in the third person. I based him off of this image that I found.
Coast is a better land origin than desert IMO and goes decently with a desert theme. Desert's Blur and Silence are good, but they are concentration spells. Neither Mirror Image nor Misty Step from Coast are concentration, and they are both really good. Desert's spells it gives at 9th level are better than Coast, but they aren't game changing by any means, and that's pretty high level.
I can imagine a Bedouin Cleric or an Oasis Druid. A druid in an oasis might be able to double the acreage of the oasis and tend to the date and fig trees to create special nutrients for traveling through the deserts. He would have the best knowledge of the paths used to travel to the nearby settlements and other features, such as the best approach for climbing that mountain. He would be able to interpret the behavior of animals to forecast storms or find water where none appears to be. So I can think of all sorts of things for a druid to do in the desert.

I was thinking about flavoring the coast as oasis for the desert theme.
