I want to have my familiar change into a fire elemental form of itself when I summon my wildfire spirit instead of summoning a seperate creature. How can I justify this mechanically?
Dismissing your familiar, and summoning the Wildfire spirit are both actions. Does it break the game to combine them into one action?
How would reducing the Wildfire spirits health past 0 affect the familiar. Thematically I’d lean towards it carries over just like wild shape and polymorph does for player characters.
It seems only fair that Familiar abilities would be suppressed while the Wildfire spirit was activated. Different move speeds, casting touch spells, and having a massively different health pool. It’s unbalanced to say you should be able to do all the good things of a familiar when it’s protected by hiding within a meat shield of hit points.
Any other concerns I haven’t thought of?
(Find familiar spell acquired by Feats or Multiclassing)
I would probably allow it given that Familiar abilities would be suppressed and stipulating that the familiar would have to be within the summoning range of wildfire spirit.
I don't really see any balance issues here. Good luck!
