Ok so I have a lvl 3 fighter (went battlemaster) and I know I want to multi class and am thinking cleric. For one WIS (13)is my 3rd highest stat below STR (17) & CON (16). Human Variant w Hvy Armor Exp feat. Secondly, my backstory kind of ties in with religion. Lastly, we seem to be in a heavy undead campaign. I am leaning towards Tempest, War or Life. I still want to be a melee guy and focus on buffs and heals (only healer is a paladin in the party). Would like to know from others that have had some exp in a build of what works and what doesn’t.
-What level should I switch over? I am thinking 5 but should I do 1 in cleric now and the go back to Fighter for a bit? Building to lvl 10, where should my lvls go?
-Good combos with low lvl spells and melee?
Definately going to up my str and wis vs getting another feat on next ASI unless anyone has a good reason not to.
Going ahead and grabbing one level of cleric wouldn't be too bad. It'll take longer to get your second attack, which you should definitely stick to two more levels of fighter to get the most bang for your buck there.
Domain wise, it really depends on which of those three options is best for what you want. If you want to boost the team's healing best as you can, life domain for sure, from the juiced up heals. I'd say war domain synergizes best with the martial prowess of a fighter, via having X number of bonus action weapon attacks per day, and the domain spells have a lot to do with your weapons and AC. However, from a really crunchy numbers standing, tempest would be the best dps boost, because thunderous rebuke is guaranteed damage.
I have a Samurai 7/ War priest 4 that is a lot of fun to play. I'd highly recommend you wait until you get your second attack before you MC though. War is pretty nice with the bonus action attacks and I've been pretty pleased with damage and durability. Having spiritual weapon out for extra attacks when you don't want to use your war priest bonus attacks helps too and later you can get spirit guardians for even more dps.
since you are not a champion, one level of hexblade is great, improved crit range
cantrips , a spell that replenishes in a short rest, you could use it for shield(+5 ac reaction) or hex (1d6 necrotic damage and disadvantage on any skill check you choose)
plus invocations, though that might be at 2 levels
if you like you can go with any spellcasting class that includes weapon based cantrips like green flame blade or booming blade. these take the place of the extra attack on 5th level and scale with character level so you would be able to stop at 4th level fighter. There is 0 benefit to level 5 fighter if you get these cantrips. personally i recomend the archfey warlock with a pact of the blade in the future. It is synergistic with fighter and is easy to make RP sense.

Jesus Saves!... Everyone else takes damage.
Been thinking about multiclassing a fighter monk that is a ruin knight subclass it might work out going to give it a try next level up.
