So I'm planning on playing a climber Simic Fighter for my next Campaign. My build revolves around grappling someone, then climbing up a wall and dropping them (utilising grappling appendage). What subclass best augments this? Right now I'm going for Champion.
Rune knight. Get large, grapple bigger things and get advantage on grapple checks. Profit. Plus, rune knights are super fun. Also look at unarmed fighting style for bonus damage when grappling them. The dropping thing isn’t so great, btw. Then you’re up on a wall, and the enemy is far away from you. A big part of grappling is locking down the enemy so they can’t go after your allies. That will be worth more than the couple of d6’s.
