I understand the basic premise of superiority die however some fighter maneuvers require adding superiority dices to an attack role such as precision attack, could sumebody explain the basic rules of adding a superiority die to a roll to me, like how much is a superiority die worth?
Hi Sandtitan. Superiority dice are worth anything from a d6 to a d12, depending on how your character got them and what level they are.
The primary way that superiority dice are earned are through the battle master archetype. Battlemasters get superiority dice as a class feature beginning at third level. At that level they get four superiority dice, each worth 1d8 (you can only use one at a time). You get an additional superiority die (for a total of 5) at level 7, and a sixth die at level 15. Supriority dice refresh with a short or long rest. At level 10, those superiority dice become d10s (instead of d8s), and at level 18 they become d12s.
You can also gain superiority dice through the feat "Martial Adept". With that feat, you get one superiority die, which is a d6, and this die does not get upgraded when you gain levels (even if your character is a battle master).

Those details are all here: http://dnd5e.*******.com/fighter:battle-master (among other places where the Battle Master archetype is described).
