I'm currently building a potential backup character for an ongoing campaign. Since my current character is level 8, I have built my backup, a Wood Elf Samurai Fighter, to level 8 as well.
At Level 8, my elf has a 19 DEX that would theoretically go to 20 at Level 12. They have the Elven Accuracy, Resilient DEX, and Sharpshooter feats for ASIs, as well as the Archery Fighting Style.
From the research I've done on the build, it seems like using Fighting Spirit to get EA advantage while taking the -5/+10 from Sharpshooter is (hypothetically) always the right call in combat to maximize DPR. The most extreme exceptions being fighting against a monster who's AC requires a 13 or higher to hit on a standard roll (18 or higher with Sharpshooter), or fighting a monster that is so weak/low on HP that basic damage will be enough to take it out.
However, I've seen several forums and videos using their own calculations, either to their specific builds or a general blanket formula, that would contradict my findings. Am I missing out on something?
