I'm currently playing an Eldritch Knight (all 8 levels are fighter/Eldritch knight). I'm new-ish to DnD (been playing once a week since September 25).
I've just levelled up to 8 and I've figured out my cantrips, and level 1 spells. I've already got 1 x level 2 spell. But I can't figure out what to pick for my 6th prepared spell. Either a level 1 or 2. Any suggestions?
I'd be looking at spells that make you better in melee. Trying to blast on the side is an exercise in frustration. I'd be looking at stuff like blur and mirror image depending on what you're doing with your concentration. Invisibility might be good depending on the campaign.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
I'd take see invisible (1 hour no conc), Blade Ward is a good concentration option for a melee build but no point having a sword if you can't see your foe.
Expeditious Retreat is another solid option (conc) but it is a great speed boost to get your sword where it needs to be, less situational than see invisible. Longstrider is non conc for a +10' move and it is upcastable.
What is the use case for magic weapon if you have a magic weapon?
Magic Weapon was for when I use my shirt bow. Had to use it a few times when fighting something out of chromatic orb's range. Thought it'd be a good idea, although I don't think I did any damage when I used it. Used it last session and gave me advantage from vex. Only time it's been useful. Maybe I'm not utilising my spells/weapns correctly
Scorching ray, might be more useful esp when layered with hex. A friend suggested it ho me. Also fire bolt when I can have a 3rd cantrips. Both better options than magic weapon+ ranged weapon
mirror image, no contest. the amount of defensive capabilitys you will have are crazy.

I'm well aware that I am very weird and I like it that way! call me adam or atomic. check out the never ending arena for good combat! my mottos:
goal number 1: be funny in all ways possible
goal number 2: be nice in all ways possible
goal number 3: have as much fun in life as you can!

On a fighter Magic weapon is an excellent choice even if you have a magic weapon. At this level you have 3 weapon mastery properties. You have a +2 Greatsword, but if you find yourself in a fight with lots of enemies you might want a Halberd for Cleave or a Maul for Topple. Being able to make that mundane weapon +1 is a big deal. It means you can flexibly swap in more weapons and take advantage of your multiple masteries. You can even swap weapons mid combat. Two guys standing next to each well pull out that halberd and magic weapon it.
As your other spell I would recommend something that helps the party assuming no one else has it yet. Spells like Arcane Lock, Detect Thoughts, Knock, Rope Trick, See Invisible, Spider Climb. Any of those can change an encounter or out of combat challenge.

Hi all,
Need a favour please...

Current list
Cantrips - Blade Ward & True strike
Level 1 - Burning hands, Chromatic orb, Shield & Witch bolt
Level 2 - Magic Weapon
My fey-touched feat gives me misty step and hex.
My stats are...
Proficiency bonus 3
Str +4 Dex 0. Con +4. Int +4 (due to headband of interlect otherwise it'd be 15). Wis 0 Cha -1
Feats
Alert, great weapon mastery, heavy armour master and fey-touched
I fight mainly with a +2 magic greatsword (required attunement)
TIA

I'd ditch the shirt bow, an improvised weapon at best ... :o)
