When Weapon Mastery and Battle Master Maneuver Options have similar end results

If I have a the Topple Mastery and the Maneuver Trip attack, do I get two chances for a prone enemy?

Maneuver: Trip Attack: When you hit a creature with an attack using a weapon or Unarmed Strike, you can expend one Superiority Die and add the die to the attack’s damage roll. If the target is Large or smaller, it must succeed on a DC 14 Str. saving throw or have the Prone condition.

Topple. If you hit a creature with a Battleaxe, you can force the creature to make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature has the Prone condition.

They use different saves, but the end result is the same, so looking for clarification

Yes, you can use both on the same attack if you want.

I'm guessing no, but can you hold off declaring your Trip Attack until after the Topple is resolved, so as to avoid "wasting" a maneuver, and maybe substituting it for another, more advantageous one?  That is, can you: roll to hit, confirm a hit, have the target roll against Topple, and after seeing the result then decide whether you want to use Trip Attack (for a 2nd chance to make your target prone) or some other maneuver?  I suppose not, since both mastery and maneuver are triggered by a "hit", meaning they'd both be triggered before the effects of either actually take place.

Some DMs might require that you declare whether you want to use both of them before you resolve either of them. Most, in my experience, would not (I certainly wouldn't) because that seems like a pointless way to suck the fun out of it.
