I have a Dex Fighter (Champion archetype) that is about to advance to Level 4. I would like to multiclass with Rogue 1, but could achieve most of the same benefits by taking the Prodigy feat. I don't really care about Thieves Cant but am trying to weigh the difference between gaining Sneak Attack or getting a step closer to a 5th Level Extra Attack. My party could really use someone who can disarm traps and open locks, so I was going to find a way to get proficiency with Thieves' Tools anyway.
Multiclassing as F3/R1:
Sleight of Hand proficiency, Thieves Tools Expertise, Stealth Expertise, Sneak Attack & Thieves Cant, 5 additional HP
F4 + Prodigy Feat:
Sleight of Hand proficiency, Thieves Tools proficiency, Stealth Expertise, 6 additional HP
Am I forgetting something? Does one seems vastly better than the other?
I'm assuming that you're playing a human, half-elf, or half-orc since those are the only races capable of taking prodigy. Also the only thing you're missing with Prodigy is that you also get an additional language of your choice. I don't think you can really go wrong with whichever choice you pick as they both offer good things.
Will say that if you decide to splash some rogue into your fighter that your Improved Critical feature is going to synergize nicely with the Rogue's Sneak-Attack feature. Critical Sneak-Attacks hit really hard, especially if you invest more levels into Rogue, but at the same time, if you're really set on being mostly a fighter you'd probably be better off taking the Prodigy feat so that you don't delay your progression towards multiple attacks.
I would stick with fighter for more HP and faster progression to multiple attacks. If your party has other front line melee types a dip into Rogue is certainly fun and shouldn't hurt the party much.

Perpetually annoyed that Eldritch Knights can't use Eldritch Blast, Eldritch Smite, and Eldritch Sight.
fighter, sneak attack will not always be available to you (advantage/engaged condition) if you commit to fighter it will be a lot easier to get the most out of your character.

I would put my money on Rogue
