I had a Dwarf Figther Battlemaster with a single level of Rogue for Athletics expertise. Took Shield Master as my level 4 feat and literally became a knocking prone machine. I grappled a lot when the opportunity appeared.
The maneuvers I took to compliment my signature move were Menacing Attack, Riposte and Precision Attack... first two I used almost every combat, Precision not that much, because I was usually attacking with advantage, so I swapped for Disarming Attack and it was amazing.
I wish the execution costs for Commander’s Strike were more soft. One of my attacks, my bonus action & the superiority die (of course) + ally’s reaction.
I'm playing a fighter with Crossbow expert feat and the sharpshooter feat. Precision strike is a must to help counter the -5 to attack with sharpshooter. Trip attack helps the melee characters and I can always run up and attack in order to get advantage myself which also helps with sharpshooter. I can use my bonus action for many things because I'm a goblin and have piety to Nylea (Theros Campaign). So my bonus actions are hunters mark, attack, disengage or hide. Menacing attack is my third option here but there are several others that are just as good. Goading attack is great. They either run away and take attacks of opportunity hoping they can reach me or attack at disadvantage. Riposte would be my go to as a melee character with high AC but its not as useful when you don't get attacked as much and you have a low AC. Keeping enemies away from me is good so pushing attack is useful and great if it pushes them off a cliff bridge tower etc.
Great points DFDrake, thank you very much!
Depending on how your DM rules dropping things, Disarming Attack with a ranged weapon can be hilariously broken.
