Im pretty new to D&D and chose a Goliath fighter (Champion) as my character, figured it would be one of the easiest to work with whilst I learned about the game. I’m always the tank who likes to get up close and personal with my enemies and am now about to start into my level 7 of exp. I figured as I’m the one who takes the hits more often than not that I would multiclass as a Barbarian and gain the advantages of a good old rage. I imagine many have done this and was wondering if you could educate me to the overall advantages and disadvantages of doing this please.
Also, I was intending on going down the path of the totem (I think that’s what it’s called) once I get to level 3. Although I have read that path of the Zealot is pretty sweet also.
Any advice anyone wants to throw my way is greatly appreciated
pros: Restitance to certain damage while raging. This further increase our tankiness especialy with lvl 3 bear totem.
cons: If you gonna use barb rage you can't use heavy armor.
Personally i think 3 lvl dips in barb well worth it. You get rage/reckless attack/danger sense/primal path which all nice features depending on the situation. In return you would lose extra attack x3/survivor (champion) which pretty lackluster.
I would avoid the Champion in most cases - however crossing it with Barbarian is the one way that makes it a bit worthwhile. The reckless attack feature to give advantage dramatically increases the chance of making the critical hit on a 19-20 (and later 18-20). This build should be used with a two handed weapon to get the most out of this.
