What level do you guys think a Kobold Rune Knight can solo a Fire Giant. I could copy in my backstory, but essentially he worships Surtur and wants to prove himself to the Fire Giants and be welcomed as one of their own.
Tender, is only level 2 at the moment, with the following stats: Str 15, Dex 14, Con 15, Int 13, Wis 9, Cha 14
Rune Knight runes:
Lv3: Ise (Frost Rune) & Haug (Hill Rune)
Lv7: Uvar (Storm Rune)
Lv10: Ild (Fire Rune)
ASI Plan:
Level 4: Heavy Armor Master
Level 6: Constitution and Intelligence
Level 8: Great Weapon Master
Magic Item shopping list (Which my DM has agreed to seed the world with):
Tender uses either a Shield and a Warhammer or a Maul (mostly depending on if he can see: it isn’t Sunny). If he manages to get the Eye Patch, he will be using the Maul alongside Giant Might the majority of the time (being able to attack normally, or even at advantage if circumstances permit/ a reaction with Umar (Storm Rune).
Tactics (assuming lv7+):
I will be using my reactions for Defensive Runes (+2 ac) for one attack per turn that may hit.
1st turn, with shield and warhammer in hand I taunt the giant and use the dodge action (defensive stance) and activate the Haug rune (resistance to damage).
2nd turn, the same but activate the Ise Rune (+2 Strength.
3rd turn, “my turn”, activate Giant Might, drop the warhammer and shield and draw my Maul (free action). Then attack twice.
4th turn, activate the Uvar Rune, and attack twice, using my judgment and reaction to choose 1 adv or dis per turn... instead of Defensive Runes.
5th turn, use my Bonus Action for Second Wind, healing myself 1d10+level. And then Action Surge for four attacks.
6th-10th turn is then just attrition, but if the fight goes on longer, I start to lose my runes.
I tried it in a mock-up a few times... I win at Level 9 (didn’t stand a chance at lv7) From my calculations, and a couple of trial fights, Tender managed to beat the Fire Giant twice (out of 2) times at level 9.
First time with 8hp left, at round 7... I won initiative and we both crit each other once. I also managed to roll max damage once.
Second time with 18hp left, at round 8... with my criting once but loosing initiative.
Gear: Warhammer, shield, +1 Maul, Plate-mail, Belt of Hill Giant Strength (21str) and Knave’s Eye Patch.
Things that I learnt which helped:
•Switching to using Uvar before turning to the offensive (turn 3)... could do at turn 2 and then activate Ise after.
•Activate all runes before dropping shield and switching to Maul. However, attacking with Warhammer once after activating Uvar and imposing disadvantage on one of the giant’s attacks.
•Remember to use +3ac reaction defensive runes, before I’m using Uvar every turn.
•When I’m on the offensive, giving myself advantage for 1 attack... which was when I would then use Great Weapon Master...
•However, I worked out the difference and Great Weapon Master does an average of 0.04 more effective... but risks being unlucky.
Kobolds get -2 strength and it looks like you used the pre made ability scores. So you should have 13 strength. Which means you need to buff it up more.

I actually rolled for stats: 17, 12, 15, 13, 9 and 14
Strength: 17-2 = 15
Dexterity: 12+2 = 14
So my stats are then Strength 15, Dexterity 14, Constitution 15, Intelligence 13, Wisdom 9, Charisma 14
Besides, if/when I get the Gauntlets of Ogre Power or a Belt of Giant Strength then my actual rolled strength score and ASIs in that stat don't matter... which is why after using a half-feat to up it to 16, I'm not going to touch Strength again with my ASIs

D&D, Youth Work and the Priesthood sadly do not typically interact... I do what I can!

Ok, just wanted to make sure. The concept sounds cool.
