Started at level 7. Started as a fighter, then 4 levels of artificer followed by 2 levels of fighter. Now at level 8 4 levels of each of Artificer and Fighter. Took linguistic and resilience intelligence feats. At 20 Int, 16 Con, 13 Str, 12 Dex, 8 Wis and 8 Cha. Character is from a military family but doesn't have the physical prerequisites to join the army. Dreams of proving himself as a fighter to his family. Became a scholar (sage background) and in the course of doing found artificing and the ability to manipulate ruins through his research.
Trying to decide whether to go with 12 more levels of fighter or 12 levels of bloodhunter. Fighter makes me stronger faster and allows for mastery of runes. Bloodhunter allows for more skills and becomes as powerful although that power comes with sacrifice.
Order of the Mutant is particularly appropriate given the use of learned formulas. Sagacity and Cruelty combined would make for a powerful character. Devil's and the fey courts have already been a factor in this campaign so there's reason to pursue becoming a bloodhunter.
I went Artificer 5 first for the 2nd attack. The added buff spells help too.
My plan is to follow up with 3 levels of bloodhunter order of the Mutant. I get a Fighting style at level 2 plus my hemocraft die. At level 3 I get the ability to bump my intelligence to 24, which is big with my magic weapon.
That gets me to +12 to hit and +10 on damage. It's all largely stuff that's a learned skill that fits from an rp standpoint.
At that point I have to figure what I want to add levels. I'm thinking get to level 7 bloodhunter and then add the last 4 levels of Artificer.
Level 4 Bloodhunter I get and asi/feat
Level 5 Bloodhunter my hemocraft die goes to a d6
Level 6 Bloodhunter I get brand of castigation which allows to track anyone I've branded also does 7 damage any time a branded creature hits me or someone within 5 feet of me.
Level 7 Bloodhunter I get to use 2 formulas at once and I get the ability to ignore a side effect of a formula once a day for 1 minute.
Whereas...
Artificer level 6 I learn 2 more infusions and get a 3rd active infusion as well as expertise with my tools
Artificer level 7 I get flash of genius
Artificer level 8 I get an ASI/feat
Artificer level 9 I get arcane jolt 5 to 7 times a day and 3rd level spells
My thinking going bloodhunter to 7 before finishing with Artificer is that I get more of a boost to my attacks. Level 6 and 8 of artificer are ok but it feels like I'm getting more out of levels 4-7 in Bloodhunter.
Any thoughts?

Decide to go Fighter 4/Bloodhunter 7/Artificer 9
