Hi, everyone! I'm working in a series of articles for my blog dedicated to each of the 13 classes, and I plan to finish each one with a short list famous examples of such class in fantasy tropes, be it novels, movies, TV shows, comics or video games.
(Extra XP if you also include some details about the reason for your ideas and what you like or don't like about the class, both as a player or DM)
Having said that, what characters come to your mind when thinking of FIGHTERS?
Another Fighter character was the Eric the Cavalier ( from D&D 80's serial cartoon ), Rohan the swordman ( from the Ragnarök Animation manga ), Johan & Peewit ( From the sequel saga of The smurfs ).
For me, when I think fighter, I think Titus Pullo from the Rome TV series. Uhtred son of Uhtred from the Saxon Tales series. Boromir from LotR. Gimli son of Gloin from LotR.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

I think about all the legendary Almogàver fighters that took out the Turks from the Mediterranean on XI - XII century.
The Visigoth fighters around Europe.
And the Spanish mercenaries from the XV - XVI century.
My Ready-to-rock&roll chars:
Dertinus Tristany // Amilcar Barca // Vicenç Sacrarius // Oriol Deulofeu // Grovtuk
IMO, fighters are well trained in combat and typically know little else, at least as far as what would show up in game mechanics.
Most medieval knights would probably qualify, also samurai and really professional combatants of all types from various cultures of that age.
Geralt of Rivia (Witcher) strikes me as an EK (or a blood hunter if you include that class)
Boromir and faramir and Gimli from LoTR.
inigo Montoya might be a dex based, finesse weapon fighter.
Ned Stark, Rob Stark, Jon Snow, the mountain, the hound ... hell at least half of the male characters on GoT and Brianne of Tarth.
Sometimes I thought Iñigo Montoya was a bard with fighting class Expertise but, I could also include here the EL ZORRO ( the Fox... hahahaha )
Ahhh, can I include the Shovel Knight game ??? And also the Sir Daniel's reference ( from Medievil Playstation game ). ???

Yeah, more I think about inigo more I think he’s probably a swashbuckler rogue.

Elric of Melenborn from that book series with his sword Stormblade most powerful sword in science fiction
Sturm Brightblade, Caramon Majere, Tanis Half-Elven and Flint Fireforge from Dragonlance Chronicles.
For me, when I think fighter, I think Titus Pullo from the Rome TV series. Uhtred son of Uhtred from the Saxon Tales series. Boromir from LotR. Gimli son of Gloin from LotR.
