The feat states: As a Bonus Action, you can apply a poison dose to a weapon or piece of ammunition. Once applied, the poison retains its potency for 1 minute or until you deal damage with the poisoned item, whichever is shorter.
I understand that if I use the traditional weapons of a fighter/Ranger/Rogue/etc.
If I use unarmed weapon, can I still apply the poison to my hand and use that as a weapon?
How exactly would this work? During my bonus action, I dip my hand (or quarterstaff/arrow/etc.) in poison, then use my attack?
I assume if I can use my hand, I get no flurry of blows the 1st round. If I miss, I can use the flurry blows and because it lasts for 1 minute, that flurry of blows can potentially administer the poison if I hit.
Not necessarily for this forum, but can a bludgeon weapon administer poison?
You would be correct, and unarmed strike does not use a weapon to attack; the injury poisons requires a weapon attack that deals peircing or slashing damage to qualify.
Now, you could probably get your DM to allow this, it depends on the table

Hello! Call me Tana or Gato My pronouns are They/Them I am a teenager. I have ADHD, Depression, and anxiety. And, you would probably call me Trans, Aromantic, and Asexual I'm nonbinary, yay! But I will Mother you if you are being stupid :[roll]1d8[/roll] + [roll]1d8[/roll] + [roll]1d8[/roll] + [roll]1d8[/roll] = [roll][roll:-4]+[roll:-3]+[roll:-2]+[roll:-1][/roll] I have adopted Golden, Salem, Wes, and Aspen
Yeah, I’d put it on a dagger or short sword. Doesn’t help with the flurry, as those are unarmed, but the attack action attack can still use the weapon.
Unless you are immune to poison, I don't think spreading poison willingly onto your own hands will end well.
I thought that too

Would probably work as is if you're playing a Grung who naturally deal poison alongside their unarmed strikes(and are immune atm to all poison), but the poison is said to bypass resistance to it.
Outside of that, Unarmed Attack doesn't neccessarily mean bare handed fists only, I believe it just means no weapons. Perhaps you can wear a waxy glove to prevent the poison touching your hand, or coating your shoes in the poison and kicking them, preventing the poison from touching your actual skin.
For a more extreme option maybe you could have an artificial limb replace a hand and use it without worry at some point as a RPing moment: for example out of desperation you try this as a last stand attempt to take down a particular dangerous enemy, and sacrifice the arm to keep your friends safe, encouraging a replacement limb later.
As always, discuss with the DM to get their opinion before going forward with any of those.
Normally, a weapon coated with poison requires contact with the inside of the body in order to circulate in the opponent's bloodstream, so a cutting weapon would be ideal. This also depends on the type of poison, and since magical poisons exist, it could work.
You could create gloves, boots, knee pads, and elbow pads from the skin of a monster that is resistant to poisons and soaked in poison.
Otherwise, for more style, you could go with claw fingers. Since natural weapons such as claws exist and are interpreted as unarmed combat, you can always create artificial claws and soak them in poison.

Rules as written, I don't think unarmed strikes actually counts as a weapon.

Playing D&D since 1982
Have played every version of the game since Basic (original Red Box Set), except that abomination sometimes called 4e.
I thought that too
