Tabaxi Monks are extreme mobility builds, and you can dodge as a bonus action. I'd recommend choosing the feat 'Lucky' to make sure you land the attack rolls then take dodge as a bonus action (Patient Defence) or use two extra unarmed strikes(Flurry of Blows) when attacking in melee combat.
Gonna bring this topic out of the graveyard. I have a Way of Mercy Monk that just hit level 4. I’m considering mobile to give me more mobility and chances to heal or use hand of harm. A little background: Warforged that used wish and ended up in a Faerun campaign. It’s a great theme for the story we have. DM is letting me use Warforged equipment. I have a armblade that is a luckblade. I have battle fists too.
Stats are Str 11 Dex19 Con 14 Int 10 Wis 16 Cha 10
Proficiencies above 5 on Medicine, Perception, Stealth, Insight, and Acrobatics.
AC 17 Movement 50ft
Would mobile be as fun to use at this level over +2 ASI? I could max Dex and increase Wis or Con. Thoughts?
Personally, I would go ahead and grab mobile. Hit and run tactics work much better at lower levels and are also more important when you are at a more fragile amount of HP.
This also matters a bit on the DM and how they run combat. If combat takes place in a lot of small, enclosed areas, then maybe not mobile.
Depends on your table. Weatherguy is right if you do a lot of tight quarters fighting. Or if you play at a somewhat or strongly optimized table. Or if you tend to face higher AC enemies.
If your typical combats seem to be very tough you would probably be better with the ASI to be sure you can hit reliably. 19 is nothing to sneeze at, at this level so you might get away with the feat.
Thanks guys. I talked to my DM about it and ran some ideas by him. We are in a 5 floor deep dungeon for the next several levels. I decided to go with Skill expert and take the +1 to Wis. and took proficiency and then expertise in Investigation. I will use the other later ASI increases to max Dex and Wis. I think the fun I would have had with mobile is mitigated by allowing me to fill in for our lack of anyone with good skills for dungeon crawling. I would like to add more to Con later but I think the evasion in later monk levels will balance out my lower health. Max Wis should push AC to 20 or more anyway

That is strictly worse than taking skill expert and taking the +1 to Dex and using a later ASI to increase wisdom by 2. Taking skill expert with dex means you will have a +1 to dex modifier until your ASI with no dis-benefits. If you are doing it for roleplay reasons or so you are not more powerfuul than the rest of the party that's fine but just thought you should be aware of it.

After this ASI: Dex 19 (+4), Wis 17 (+3), Benefit from skill expert feat
After Next ASI: Dex 20 (+5), Wis 18 (+4), benefit from skill expert feat
