I'm about to kick off a new campaign this evening and have rolled up a GWM Paladin. He's taken GWM at first level (Variant Human) and started as a pally. My rough plan is this:
1. Paladin with GWM 2. Spells and Divine Smite 3. Oath of Devotion 4. Feat: Resilient (Con) - takes Con to 16 and adds prof for Concentration saves 5. Extra Attack 6. Aura 7. Sorcerer (Shield and Absorb Elements) 8+ etc.
This is my current plan. I'm 99% certain I want to go straight to 6th level as a pally and definitely want to go Devotion for RP reasons. The party really needs me to be more melee than spell caster and it's my preferred style anyway.
So, do I have the progression about right, or is there a better order to progress? I was assuming straight to 5th for Extra Attack as a priority and then might as well go 6th as Aura is great (I'll have 16 Chr). 7th Devotion is a bit weak so it seems the right time to flip.
Is there a better route up?
EDIT: I guess I am wondering if there is any benefit with going for Sorcerer before 5th level due to any of the crazy stuff you can do with BB and GFB and any other subtle synergies with GWM I've missed.
Solid build, this is how you wanna approach the multiclass for sure. Consider leaving resilient con for later in the build, if only because you won't have any major spell worth concentrating on until you get at least lvl 5, so total 11, and by then you'll have your 2nd ASI. I'd personally go for increasing CHA to improve future spell DCs and improve your aura which also improves your concentration checks.
Taking one level of sorc first gets you con save proficiency, but you only get medium armor later. Booming blade makes you stronger levels 2-4, but you delay extra attack. Either way works.

Hello all,
I'm about to kick off a new campaign this evening and have rolled up a GWM Paladin. He's taken GWM at first level (Variant Human) and started as a pally. My rough plan is this:
1-6 Devotion Paladin (Extra Attack and Aura)
7+ Divine Soul Sorcerer
More specifically:
1. Paladin with GWM
2. Spells and Divine Smite
3. Oath of Devotion
4. Feat: Resilient (Con) - takes Con to 16 and adds prof for Concentration saves
5. Extra Attack
6. Aura
7. Sorcerer (Shield and Absorb Elements)
8+ etc.

Thanks in advance
