So whenever I DM for paladins i always ask or work together with the player to actually write an oath that their paladin would have sworn to so they can refer back to it or include it in the rp. Getting ready for a spell jammer campaign (I know still got a few weeks till its even released I'm just over exited) and I'm planning on playing my first ever paladin and I want to write an oath for them, and normally i'd be fine with it writing stuff based on their god and phrase it as a prayer, but this is going to be a Giff paladin with pirate background who has sworn an oath of the open sea to uphold the pirate code (DM and i are working together to get a code together), and i'm finding so much harder to even start writing the actual oath. Any help will be appricated!
I'd focus on the first tenet of the oath personally; "No Greater Life than a Life Lived Free". Up to you whether you want to focus on personal freedom, or freedom for all as a principle; you can still apply the latter to a pirate because a servile crew is just a crew that can't see its chains. Considering the Astral Sea is a place where you can be free of pretty much any law, including the laws of physics, it'd definitely be something I could see a piradin embodying.
Or you could keep it simple and go for some classic one liners like "Take what you can, give nothing back!".

Creating a unique oath for a Giff paladin with a pirate background is a fun and creative endeavor! Given the nautical and pirate theme, you'll want to incorporate elements of the sea, freedom, honor among thieves, and the adventurous spirit.
