The first game I played in 5e some years ago resulted in my character, as a Hexblade 1/Swords Bard, being the primary frontliner, primary DPS, primary healer, and primary face of a small party which has left me with a strong tendency to have my characters try to cover as many bases as possible.
Although I've tended to primarily play Hexblade Warlocks since, I keep toying with other ideas, of which this is one.
(I've adopted some of the Playtest UA rules as homebrew, like the level 1 feats)
The race is Mark of Shadow Elf from Eberron - Rising from the Last War. Because of the option of Spirit Guardians at level 9 I've gone with the Oath of the Crown subclass. Mark of Shadow Elf gives an expanded spell list that includes Disguise Self and Pass Without Trace, which are handy options for my character concept. Blessed Warrior fighting style for Guidance and Sacred Flame.
Starting feat: Skilled, Acrobatics, Deception, Performance. Background proficiencies: Stealth, Sleight of Hand, Thieves' Tools, Thieves' Cant. Class proficiencies: Athletics, Persuasion.
With proficiency in Persuasion and Deception on a Charisma caster, with Disguise Self as an available spell, the character becomes a very good party face.
Being a dexterity build, with Stealth proficiency (and the d4 bonus from Mark of Shadow) and the option of Pass Without Trace he's a real sneaky boi.
At level 4 take the Revenant Blade feat, bumping dexterity to 18 and making the Double-Bladed Scimitar a finesse weapon. Buy a Double-Bladed Scimitar.
At level 8 take the Resilient (Con) feat to bump constitution to 14. With proficiency in con saves, and the Paladin's aura he'll be rolling +8 to con saves, which is fairly good.
Of course being a Paladin means he has the punch punchy and healing sides of things locked down too. He can also use a longbow if he finds himself without a target in range.
