Okay so I'm about to reach level 7 as devotion paladin.(2024 rules)
I'm wondering if I should go sorcerer from here on out or if I should commit fully to paladin.
The plan for the campaign is the go late game around 18-20. That being said I'm tempted to fully commit to paladin but I don't multiclass much and this seems like a good time for it but Im not sure how sorcadin preforms in 2024.
Also depends greatly on your playstyle and what you'll be fighting. If you need to be in melee, going from d10 hp to d6 hp isn't conducive to staying alive. Don't pin your hopes on being able to shield every round, some monsters (especially at higher levels) aren't going to care much what your AC is.

Playing D&D since 1982
Have played every version of the game since Basic (original Red Box Set), except that abomination sometimes called 4e.
I'd say the main benefit to multiclassing is the higher level spell slots. For instance, you'll be able to get a flying mount earlier than a straight class paladin would. And you get to smite more. I do think that bard might be a better secondary class then sorcerer, however, as I find bardic inspiration more useful than metamagic when you've committed a lot levels to a different class.

The combo is still great in 2024. My opinion to you, it’s always fun trying something different and new. If you want that then go for it. It’s something you need to decide as a player and also discuss with your table. You can discuss strategies that you can develop as well. Nothing nobody here can really guide you to what you want or see yourself (character) progress and game play. Good luck with your choice.
If you're going to level 20, you can go for the blanket Charm Immunity is more valuable than the headstart to higher-level slots, which, yeah, are the best power spike you can have on a Paladin.
All a Paladin's smite spells care about is spell slot level; the baseclass's/Devotion subclass's later features don't improve on what the Paladin's doing beyond providing half-cover when you use divine smite at 15, and later, an aura range boost.
Compare that to having access to 6th level spell slots at 15 (along with Sorcerer class features), and an 8th level slot at 18/6th level spells. You don’t have a cure-all LoH - but that's about the biggest loss in this exchange tbh when your damage is so tied to smites to matter (shoutout to devs, maybe Warlocks shouldn't be the only class outside Fighter with a 3rd attack at 11, especially if you're giving the martial leaning fullcaster extra attack at 7, lol).

At 7th level you get the resistance to charmed ability, so it is probably good to be a 7 level paladin.
At 8th you get the ASI bonus, so again, a good time to be an 8th level paladin.
So what about at 9th level you switch? But you do get more spells, however, you do as a sorcerer as well.
You do get more Paladin bonus for levels 9,10,11 and again another ASI boost at 12.
When does sorcerer trump those abilities you get?

Well, and the d6 vs d10 HD... Damage is great, but staying power starts to suffer.
