Right now im S+B but took Great Weapon Fighting and will switch to Greatsword instead of Longsword as we have two tanky classes already in my party (Druid and Fighter). We also have a Beast Master Ranger with a panther.
Im Level 3 Paladin with Oath of Vengeance.
How should i progress the build and when should i take my turn into Sorc? Also we are about to leave our home campaign and delve into Waterdeep. levels 4-5 in the city and then 5-14 in the dungeon according to my DM. Would love any help or understanding of how to maximize the class.
I’m just starting out with my Devotion/Divine Soul Sorcadin but here’s a quick summary of the best advice I got:
IMO the 6/14 (Paladin/Sorcerer) build is the most versatile way to build this multiclass. You get the tankiness of the paladin levels and the Aura of Protection so you're actually hard to take down. You lose out on some higher level spells from Sorcerer, but you can deal amazing damage from smites alone…nevermind the other pretty mind blowing combos from metamgaic and sorcerer spells/spell slots. This build also gets you the Level 14 Sorcerer Origin feature plus a level 9 spell slot. You don't know any level 9 spells, but you can use the slot to upcast anything, or convert to Sorc points to use for Metamagic features.
The Pros and Cons of this build are well detailed in this link, but here are the major Cons I have experienced:
You don’t get Improved Divine Smith at Level 11…Not a huge issue since you already dish out HUGE DPR.
You won’t get the Find Greater Steed Spell. No Pegasus or Griffon mount which is a huge bummer!
You lose 1 ASI. This build is MAD so you are going to need those ASIs for STR/DEX and CHA. This doesn’t really leave room for feats. (Although I noticed you already have a 20 CHA which is a bonus) Some folks take a 1 Level dip in Hexblade to get around this and focus on CHA. This is a little too much multiclassing for my taste.
I went 6 Levels of Paladin and then started Sorcerer for the rest. If you can’t wait to try out sorcery you might take 3 levels of sorcerer (for metagmagic) and then finish your remaining 3 levels of Paladin. Either way this is a fun build.
What sorcererous origin are you taking? Draconic or Divine Soul are great options.
I completely understand taking paladin 6 to get AoP. i was thinking about going going Paladin 5 then switching to sorcerer since we have two other tanky characters as well as a ranger that will be in melee range. I feel like this would give me the opportunity to try to build out for greater damage output instead of utility for the group.
Are you stopping Paladin at for extra attack? If you are Not going to Level 6 for the Aura of Protection, I might be tempted to forgo the extra attack and stop at level 3. This would give you full caster progression with a 9th level spell...Wish?! You can get your extra attack by twinning booming blade or quickening green flame blade. You also get to smite in the melee weapon attack. Just a thought...you can’t really go wrong with Sorcadin IMO.
Yeah i was gonna go to 5 for the extra attack. That would give me a melee attack where i can smite and the utility of an additional attack or casting a spell - whether that is for damage or something that benefits the party. i know WISH is OP but i dont know if this game will get to lvl 20

I am afraid it wouldn't work as you intend.
The Extra Attack feature allows you to make two attacks whenever you take the Attack Action. Casting a Spell is a completely separate Action, so you cannot use it instead of one of the two attacks you would get when using the Attack Action.

so if i understand this correctly, i have one action. i can either attack and do that twice if i have extra attack, or i can cast a spell with my action and use metamagic (twinned) to cast two spells?
You can attack and cast a spell IF the spell has a casting time of 1bonus action. Healing word and thunderous smite are a couple of spells that are cast as bonus actions. You can also Quicken a spell with meta-magic and cast it as a bonus action and then attack in the same round.
A common Sorcadin tactic is to quicken hold person or hold monster then attack and smite twice. If this works both attacks are automatic critical hits...imagine the damage possible. The maneuver takes a lot of resources to pull off though...
Really excited to play this today. Going into Waterdeep: Dragon Heist as a level 3 paladin. cant wait to gain some levels and be able to start branching into Sorcerer. Based on the help ive received here i think ill be going Pally 6 before moving over to sorc. i have a melee heavy party and that aura of protection feels like its going to do us wonders as we head into undermountain.
Nice! Dragon heist already. I’m looking forward to playing my Sorcadin at higher levels....just to see if all this Sorcadin stuff is just theory crafting or is as good as advertised. It definitely takes a while to come online!
i went away from s+b knowing that we have 4 party members (2 tanks) plus a panther in melee range . The Glaive is found is ridiculous and with being able to reroll 1 and 2s the 1d10 jumps up decently. Looking forward to my great sword so i can use it more to drive those 2d6
Any tips for feats going with two handed weapon? I wont need war caster as i can cast while holding my sword with one hand when im not swinging.
Mostly depends on what two-handed weapon you want to use... If it's going to be a Greatsword, Great Axe or Mail, you'd want to go with Great Weapon Master, if it's going to be a Glaive, go for polearm master
Moving deeper into this Charaacter. Just finished Dragon Heist and hit lvl 5.
Plan is to go Pally 3/Sorc 2. been attacking with a +1 silvered greatsword. Trying to figure out what spell to pick up and if i can chain smites together once i get twinned spell.
Forget malti attack unless you want to hit lvl6 palidan. Get twinned spell even early on and just hammer out booming blade. (This only works when u are lvl 5) For 1 sourcery point you have 2 attacks that do double damage compared to base weapon attack plus more if it moves. The cherry on to is you can even layer some smites in there too for insane dmg. Then throw in quickened spell and you can heal area controls or just do more dmg with a spell. Also pop a shield spell with shield of faith and your rocking as much as 28 ac with heavy armour! 🤣
Making a new Character - also new to DnD.

i am not sure, but i think you should get Pally 4 first for Warcaster. this feat seems to important for Sorcadin to skip it
