Hey, I was toying with the idea of a paladin for my back up character. I am aiming for a melee frontline build. I thought I'd theory craft a level 20 character and thought that a hex blade warlock and and oath of conquest paladin would work quite well. I was thinking at least 8 levels of Paladin, but would like to go to 11-12 (For improved smite and the extra ASI if i need it). Then I wanted to go at least 3 levels of warlock to gain pact of the blade, but was thinking about 5 levels of warlock ideally for eldritch smite (or another invocation). Oath of conquest has spiritual weapon, so I have an attack on a bonus action and it can stack with things like hex's blade's curse (I think?), Eldritch blast will give me a ranged option if need be, and
For race I thought Triton (because why not) or if i wanted to optimize a little more I could go Fallen aasimar +2 CHA, +1 STR and for necrotic shroud (This would add extra damage on top of things like hex, hex blade's curse, divine smite) and the frightened effect syenrgizes well with aura of conquest. Or even the UA tiefling "Zariel" variant. I gain +2 CHA, +1 STR, and even get some free, single use smite spells (With some utility of dark vision, fire resistence, infernal language etc...).
Haven't worked out the level order though, maybe start paladin?
Start as Paladin for the armor and weapons, then MC to Warlock. The Paladin level 8 warlock 12 or reverse are both good, going PALLy 8 and Lock 12 makes you a really good Hell Knight type.
Yeah, that's not a bad idea. I was initially planning to go Paladin (Oath of Conquest) LV 15/Warlock (Hexblade) LV 5. But I'll consider this, thanks. I'm trying to figure out what race though. Because I find Triton's interesting and always wanted to play one, but I feel fallen Aasimar or even the UA Tiefling Variant 'Zariel' would synegize better with this build. Thoughts?
