Ok, nice. Decided to do Resilient +1 Con, +2 Strength, Resilient +1 Strength, +2 Charisma and then Inspiring Leader. That will round out my strength to 20 +5, my Con to 14 +2 and my Charisma 17 +3 and the +3 in Charisma will help with the Inspiring Leader feat. This works out well.
Yeah, I seem to bounce back and forth between what feats I want. I want to be a bulky character but I also want to be proficient enough in magic to be useful. At least with high strength, I will be a good attacker also. I think with the Inspiring Leader feat, it will be a big help for not just myself but also the other companions when we are facing a large threat. Thanks for the advice and help again.
EDIT: I made an alternative. Resilient for the +1 in Con, +2 in Strength, +1 in Strength with Tavern Brawler, Sentinel and then Mage Slayer. I would have liked to get tough early on but I need the +1 strength so I could get to level 20.
You mentioned that you are doing waterdeep, can you tell us how many other players there are and what classes they are? Might help to give advice that works in tandem with your friends and fills in team weaknesses
Sure, there is a Half Elf/Half Human Bard, A halfling Fighter, A Gnome Ranger, Dragonborn Paladin (Me) and a character I created which is a supporting character that is going to be played by the DM. It is a baby red dragon that is cursed never to age. It has a psychic link with me and will be a support cleric to the team.
I ended up settling on. Resilient for the +1 in Con, +2 in Strength, +1 in Strength with Resilient again, Sentinel and then Mage Slayer. It lends to proficiencies in CON and STR, get's my STR to 20 and allows me to have some really cool feats.
Not to throw a wrench in the works but if you're still planning on being sword and board I would recommend the shield master feat. It can really help with Dex saves and you can bonus action shove people too. I'd probably go first ASI +1 to Str/Cha giving you 18 and 16 respectively which boosts the modifier for both. Next you can do resilient Con making that an even number and getting you proficiency in that save. Next ASI Sentinel, then Mage slayer then Shield Master, or swap one of those out for a +2 Str to get to 20 if you prefer. I also like the dueling fighting style to help boost your damage or if you prefer a little more sturdy build go with defense.
I play a lot of paladins and often am in the sword and board/tank type role and have found these to all be good choices.
Best of luck!
