I'm hoping to get some feedback on what you think would be a good Oath for my Chaotic Neutral Half-Orc Paladin of Talos. I went with Chaotic Neutral because of the nature of the sea and storms and that they can't be stopped but they are an important part of nature.
We are setting out to do the Saltmarsh campaign and I decided I wanted my Half Orc to be from the slums of Luskan who joined the military and became a Marine (Seal type) He has left the marine's and is now becoming an adventurer.
I was thinking about Oath of the Ancients because following a God of the Sea and Storms seems to be a pretty ancient type of thing. Except it seems to be just for like forests etc and lean towards good gods.
I also thought about Conquest because Talos is a destructive God, or Oath of Vengeance for the same reason.
Any thoughts you have on the subject would be much appreciated.
Thanks for the feedback Khaldo. I was leaning towards Ancient with the second choice of Conquest. But I like the experience and thought you bring to this so I think I will go with Conquest. It was really a toss up for me, I was really only gonna go Ancients for the aura. Heh.
I strongly recommend you not worry about alignment, and worry about your oath and why your PC is taking that oath. Ancients I think fits your character concept: Nature. If so I wouldn't worry about good vs bad. That type of thinking is largely archaic and nuanced even more so with moral relativism. Read the oath tenants and make sure you can abide by them.

It doesn't matter how smart you think are you. No one will want to work with you if you're an *******.

Specifically the tenets part.
oath of conquest has 3 tenets that are more RP heavy than most Paladins.
douse the flame of hope essentially means, don’t conserve spell slots and resources ever, because when you kill anything you MUST overkill it to the extreme to set an example. And if you cannot overkill things, or choose to let things live, you do so where they fear you, and are essentially your thrall/underling.
that leads into the other 2 tenets, which can cause a lot of friction in a party when people disagree with the paladin.
but all this^ depends on if your DM actually has you role play the paladin tenets or lose the oath, or if they don’t.

Conquest story wise and alignment wise will probably be what you're looking for.
Being a Marine myself and knowing that mentality Conquest fits alot more with that elite shock troop background you mentioned.
Vengeance is generally more Lawful Neutral then Chaotic because they still care about the law it's just the ends justify the means.
Ancients is more about nature in reality and can generally be chaotic neutral much like the fey.
Just one Marine grunts opinion based off faerun lore.
