So, a friend of mine wants to run CoS again and had a really bad time with the paladin in their game. I am wanting to play a paladin and wanted to give it a better experience. So which Oath would you recommend for the campaign?
What oath was used the first time around? Because honestly, I'd default to Oath of Devotion just because it's the most general purpose oath paladins get and abilities like Turn the Unholy, Sacred Weapon, and Aura of Devotion ought to be useful.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
Oath of Vengeance is the most combat oriented since the Channel divinity lets you attack with advantage the target for a minute, and some of the extended spell list are also geared towards frontline combat.
Outside of that, unless the player is Rping like an ever Edgier Batman on crack, it is not a "problematic" Oath, imo Conquest is an even bigger pain in the arse for a DM, but thats maybe just me...
Now it also depends on the kinda role you wanna do in the party, Oaths are varied enough( evne tho nowhere near the level of Clerics domains), to be either healer/tank/DPS/support.

Kain de Draakberg-Dark Knight lvl8-Avergreen(DitA)
Devotion has Turn the Unholy.
Ancients is always strong. You can talk to the ravens. Spell resistance is fantastic.
