My Paladin and a rouge buddy were Charmed by a Vampire during our last session. My DM said I lost all interest in serving Bahamut because of this I'm wondering if I should loose access to my spells. I think I should as I use my shield as a focus for almost everything.
That’s a strange interpretation of being charmed. It generally just means you consider the charm-er to be a friend and won’t attack it. Not that it completely re-writes your personality. So it could be a homebrew effect, or your DM could be a bit off on how it works.
And paladin abilities are based on their oaths, not service to a god, so ignoring a god should not affect your paladin abilities either way.
That said, you might just go with it, RAW, the effect wears off after 24 hours at most.
This sounds suspiciously like the GM trying to screw a player. The Charmed status just means that you won't attack the character that charmed you. It doesn't change your personality or force you to take particular actions that you wouldn't normally do.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

inclined to go with it.
As for abilities I've seen arguments for oath and for God. To be honest I was hoping that it would be a clue that something was wrong. In theory the rest of our party doesn't t know anything is wrong.

I have my suspensions about his plans but I'm confident it's not a malicious thing. I looked up charm as soon as he used it then the Vampire version and I think he's trying to build part of the story around what's happening on our travels.
Charm is more than just not attacking the "charmer." You regard the spellcaster as a friendly acquaintance, so it seems like you'd be willing to chat with him and tell him anything you would to a friend on the street.
I agree that having a player character abandon their entire ethos is way out of bounds. What does Dominate Person say? Charm Person has to be less than that.

Hello
My Paladin and a rouge buddy were Charmed by a Vampire during our last session. My DM said I lost all interest in serving Bahamut because of this I'm wondering if I should loose access to my spells. I think I should as I use my shield as a focus for almost everything.
Thoughts?
