I just started a new adventure and I am playing a Triton Paladin who is an Archaeologist. He thinks that everybody likes and admirers Triton history and wants to hear about it, or about any bit of history in general. He is hunting for old dungeons and ruins to find and root out the evils that have escape the sea to the surface. I was wondering if i could get any information on Triton history to tell people and any advice on how to talk to other people about history with out just saying "hey do you want to some History". Also if anybody has any advice on a back story for this character that would be great
Triton history is going to depend completely on your world and how the DM handles it. (FR tritons, Theros tritons and homebrew tritons will have completely different histories. And even if you are using a published setting, your DM might make changes to it.) I’d suggest you work with them on the idea and maybe the two of you can flesh something out together.
As far as how to do it, I'd say you just throw it out there like you’re constantly drawing comparisons to the present. “That man reminds me of The triton King Flubber IV, he was known for his love of shrimp, after all.” Or “This played out just like the Battle of Gildur’s trench.”
Then you can launch into a detailed discussion of the person or event.
