I have had the spell for a bit, but have only just used it due to the other party looking into getting horses for a longer trip. i have my steed in mind and have OKed it with my DM to reskin another animal as my chosen steed. I am a tortle but like the thought of riding a dog due to it looking funny, imagine one of the ninja turtles riding lockjaw of the inhumans. a couple of things i am un sure on is:
1. due to it being a magical steed (celestial being my choice), does it (a) come with the relevant saddle and reigns, or would i need to purchase them and carry them about when it is not summoned? or (b) does it even need a saddle due to it being telepathically linked with me?
2. again with it being magical, does it need to eat? as the others are taking about buying horse feed and i am unsure if mine would need it too?
I assume it comes with appropriate tack for riding whatever form it takes. Otherwise, you're stuck lugging a saddle around everywhere you go. And that anything else you store on it would vanish if it is "killed" in battle.
I also agree you don't need to feed it. But it could be funny if you kept a couple bones or other treats to give it. Or a squeaky chew toy to play with during a short rest.

I agree with Lyxen.
