So I decided to do something a bit different. I have a level 9 Paladin-Oath of Justice initially but now Oathbreaker (3)/Assassin (3)/Warlock-Hexblade (3) Here's his backstory:
A boy is recruited to be trained as a protector. He starts his training to become a paladin. They notice his talent to hide and evade his teachers that they decide to train him for more clandestine missions as a protector. They teach him thief skills and hiding in shadows and how to kill from the shadows. He is will be an avenging angel for the helpless. He will fight among the ranks of other knights and he will also deliver death to those that can't be easily reached by war. When he is fully trained he takes his oath of vengeance and receives his divine powers to help him with his mission. He knows that his soul will not be clean, but it is a sacrifice he is willing to give in order to punish the wicked.
He is sent on assignment after assignment delivering vengeance. some of the more recent assignments were a bit odd and really didn't fit the normal MO. He discovers that some of the men he's killed were innocent. He learns that his handler is a necromance and has been using him to kill people in order to collect souls. The stain on his own soul of killing not just the guilty, but the innocent too cause him to snap. He realizes that his actions, although unknown at the time go against his oath and he is no longer the protector he thought he was. He is corrupted and his former powers fade. He wants his own vengeance for this betrayal. The necromancer's hold on those in the government is firm and he cannot hope to defeat him.
Broken and hopeless, he is visited by the Shadow Queen who makes a pact with him. This necromancer, aided by Vecna the god of evil secrets, has been making an attempts to infiltrate her fortress for her knowledge of souls. She has offered him power and a blade to help defeat the necromancer and prevent Vecna from entering her domain in the Shadowfell.
I'm wondering where to go in terms of future levels. Should I stay with Warlock or develop other skills?
