Hi guys, this is my first time posting here and I'm what you might call a complete newbie to the world of D&D. I started my first adventure during lockdown with a few friends over zoom and now we're playing every week, it's great fun.
I've been really excited about reaching level 3 with my Wood Elf Ranger and really wanted to take the Beast Master sub class so I can get a Primal Companion (using the update in Tashas Cauldron) but can't figure out for the life of me how to set it up on D&D Beyond. I'm able to select Beast Master subclass but then it only gives me the option of adding a Rangers Companion as opposed to the Primal Companion. I've tried playing with my settings and turning 'optional class settings' on but it doesn't change anything.
Any help you guys can offer the better, I'm tired of fiddling round with settings and just want to get on with some hardcore slaying.
I thought this mite be the case, when looking to purchase individual subclasses the Swarmkeeper and Fey Wanderer are there but not the beast master/ primal companion. I'm reluctant to buy the whole book one it's just this one feature I want.
Unfortunately, all of the optional replacement features for the Ranger in Tasha's is a must have in my opinion. Otherwise I'd look away from the class to be honest.
And yeah, it doesn't seem like there's a 'optional rules' bundle within it, which seems like a missed opportunity on their end.
Does your DM have the ability to share the sourcebooks if he owns it?
I'm trying it out currently, and was pleased to make 3rd level and get the primal companion. A session later it dawned on me there are few other things the character will develop as I increase it in levels after this, even with many of the optional abilities. I've discovered I gravitate toward spellcasters because they're always getting new spells/stuff to do, creative ways to spend their turns. I'm enjoying my ranger, I can just see the boredom incoming...
Anyone else notice that they kept the primal companion within the features/traits on the character sheet, instead of making a creature to add under the "Extras" tab? You keep track of hp under the "uses" mechanic. Curious why that is. Takes slightly more scrolling to find my primal companion than if it were just in the Extras.

I believe you have to have purchased Tasha's Cauldron of Everything in order to access the Optional Class Features, but don't quote me on that.
The Primal Companion option will appear under the Optional Class Features tab only after you have selected the Beast Master subclass.
