As a new swarm ranger is it possible to start fires with my swarm I had a idea in tha middle of a incident where I was going to start a fire with my firefly swarm for us to get away ?
There's nothing indicating they can do anything like that. They move things and do piercing damage. You could ask your DM about flavoring fire or smoke into how you describe the forced movement, but they can't actually set fires.

Fireflies aren't very good at starting fires, but assuming you flavor your spells as your swarm doing things, you could learn a spell that starts fires (like Ashardalon's Stride) and flavor it as your swarm starting the fires.
Using mage hand might allow some options for the "swarm" to start fires but it's limited range. Another option might be a summon spells flavored as part of the swarm assuming they are smart enough to carry a torch and light things on fire.
Swarmkeeper gets Mage Hand for free, and I've been planning to use this with a possible future Ranger of mine to carry a torch without occupying a hand; in my case the character is a wooden construct, and I like the idea that part simply detaches to hover in the air and catches alight, but you could theme yours as supernatural fireflies conjuring the flame?
With a lit torch you can attempt to start fires; how easy this is though will depend upon your DM, as there aren't any super well defined rules for starting fires iirc, even though my groups seem to do it a lot, heh. While a lot of materials can burn quickly once a fire has started, many don't catch alight quickly to begin with; e.g- they required sustained burning, and may smoulder initially before going up in flames in a way that's useful to you.
In my case I view it as a tool; I might use it to light bonfires, or set off a trap that has been specifically set up (e.g- piled wood with flammable oil for good measure) rather than an attack to be used ad-hoc in combat, though you can do tiny amounts of fire damage with a torch directly if you want.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
