So, quick idea. Have your local 8th level druid wilshape into a giant eagle, mount them, and then ride 400ish feet in the air. Now your safe(ish) from enemies and can snipe them from they skies. I officially call this the Deidara strat.

Don't you think that it would be more effective to have the Druid fighting and you just tank the hits or the Druid does? Or be an Aarakocra something? Just you're sacrificing probably about a quarter of your party...just.ti avoid being hit by land lovers. You're also not invulnerable to an attack by other air creatures or ranged fighters.

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
I would make the rider roll every turn to hang on.
Every roll to attack from the back of a wing beating creature would be at triple disadvantage to hit. Practice this. Find a car with a sun roof. stand up so you can throw something. Drive by something at 5 mph and see if you can hit something from 20 feet away.

This is kind of mentality is the kind of problem that created bad experiences with phb ranger.(wich is normally a fine class)
A player has a good creative idea and they get shutdown. I'd rather have the balance investigated. every feature or beast has weaknesses and strengths. If a player puts in the work and investment, they should get the benefit. That being said flight has its already in game rules based weaknesses.
Reward skill/feature choices but remember it's downsides.

My Homebrew Please click it, they have my family.
A giant eagle can only hold up 480 pounds. Try asking your L8 Moon Druid to turn into a Quetzalcoatlus, which can carry 900 pounds.

Agree, except triple disadvantage doesn't work. Just be an aarakockra or something.
