We had to skip our weekly game so, I had some fun playing for about an hour with a chatbot. I asked about rangers. It was very kind to phb rangers when asked and was balanced between tasha's and phb.
When I asked about downsides pet death came up so I spent some time on the pet death loophole. It required alot of correction and odd responses. In at one point I got this response when asking for a fixed process of the pet death loophole with details and limitations:
<*Thank you for the clarification. Here's a revised step-by-step process for the pet death loophole with more details and limitations: > > The Beastmaster acquires their first pet through the "Ranger's Companion" feature at 3rd level. This pet can be any beast of CR 1/4 or lower that is not undead or an elemental. > > If the pet dies, the Ranger can choose to bond with another beast of CR 1/4 or lower after an 8 hour period of bonding. This new pet can have different features and abilities than the previous pet, providing the Ranger with more options in combat. > > The Ranger can then choose to resurrect the old pet, which requires the use of a spell or magic item that can resurrect a beast. This can be expensive in terms of spell components, and the Ranger must also consider the willingness of the dead pet to be resurrected. > > Once the old pet is resurrected, the Ranger now has two pets to use in combat, providing even more versatility and options. However, the Ranger can only command one pet at a time using their action, as per the Ranger's Companion feature. > > It should be noted that the cost of resurrecting the pet can be comparable to the cost of magic items such as a Bag of Tricks or a Figurine of Wondrous Power. Additionally, the Ranger may not always have access to the necessary spell components for resurrection, further limiting their ability to use the pet death loophole. > > It is important to note that the use of the pet death loophole does not necessarily unbalance the game, as the Ranger is still limited by the action economy and the availability of resources for resurrection. However, it does provide more options for the player and can enhance the overall enjoyment of the game.*
Earlier, it gave disclaimer I'll include.
It's also worth noting that some DMs might not allow this loophole, as it can be seen as a way to bypass the intended limitations of the class feature. So, it's important to have a discussion with your DM and make sure they're comfortable with it before attempting to use this tactic.
I will post more bits when I go back to my original device if there's an interest.
