Take sharpshooter first, but what you're taking it for is the removed disadvantage at long range/cover bonus to AC. You now have a greater range and chance of hitting with your single shot, vs continued shorter range and penalty from cover if you waited.
It depends on the DM. If your DM has been playing with cover or does fights at really long range then Sharpshooter will be useful. If you get thrown on a standard map and he doesn't use cover then go crossbow expert. Damage wise the bonus action attack will be ahead at low levels compared to the -5/+10 mechanic. Additionally at low level the -5 can be really frustrating to play with.
Drow Ranger, about to hit level 4. Long term goal is cross bow expert using one hand cross bow, plus sharp shooter.
Should I take cross bow expert first for the extra attack (because it’s a hand held weapon) or sharp shooter for the -5/+10 damage?

I prefer crossbow expert.
