The character is a Drow Elf Ranger Archer with Sharpshooter. I plan on going to 8th level to add Crossbow Expert. At that point I am going to either take a 3 level dip in Rogue Assasin or Fighter for action surge. Which would be a stronger build for DPS? My party relies on me for quick damage as well as guiding us through the wilderness.

I am also playing a 4th level gloomstalker ranger drow, but what fighter subclass would you get? Also, are you sure you don’t want to wait till level 5 to multiclass, getting the feat at 9? That’s what I’m doing, though I’m grabbing sharpshooter. And I am doing rogue first

 I definatly will be waiting till 5th. Just trying to preplan. Subclass if I do multiclass into fighter would be Rune Carver though I'll have to figure out where I meet a Rune Carver to learn it.

Definitely rogue then, rune knight does not work well for non-melee builds
