I mean, Rogues are my least favorite class while Sorcerers and Artificers are my favorite.
None of this is really pertaining to Rangers though.....
There being fans of every class pertains to the subject at hand. ;) So is the fact that for every class there are people who dislike it for one reason or other. I don’t think continuously debating the relative merits of the ranger class is going to carry us any further, so might as well confirm it’s all relative in the end anyway.
that makes sense. i love ranger but still think its kinda weak.

That's fair.

Agreed. They are just the least powerful class in the PHB. Plenty viable, but there is a reason you don't see optimizers taking more than three levels of ranger ;)

And this is precisely why people shouldn't believe everything they read online. Thank you for demonstrating that. Saying something does not, in fact, make it true.

Cmon, we were having a friendly monosyllabic conversation. No need to be toxic :)

I'm sorry if I get a bit snarky after 15 pages of circular shouting matches that started when this guy showed up.

Ah, sorry. Yes, you're completely correct. This conversations isn't constructive. Now, it's just people yelling about their feelings for the class, while others are making comparisons and giving evidence. This has devolved beyond the point of it being salvageable. I would not mind this thread getting locked.

Rangers are not the least powerful class in the PHB.
Saying rangers aren't underpowered is one thing. But this? The sheer lunacy of even trying to evaluate which classes are more powerful than others aside, how would you even begin to measure this?

Rangers have the most player dissatisfaction this edition. Go figure :)

You’ll notice the very first response you made to me when I showed up was immediately questioning my experiences with the game and discounting them. Who’s trolling who? Several of you are the folks that have been regurgitating old internet fed sound byte complaints over and over again in this thread. The scenarios you propose and metrics of measurement you use to provide evidence to support your your opinions reinforce nothing other than your predetermined biases.

I doubt that. I certainly don't think there's any kind of meaningful data to support this assertion to begin with.

There was enough for WotC to comment on it and make a 'revised' version...

That was dumped.
Because WotC didn't want to invalidate a section of their core rulebooks. They transformed that into the Class Feature Variants UA that is coming out later this year.

I think you are confusing a few points. First, Ranger is not underpowered necessarily, its just poorly designed. Specifically these design flaws manifest more prominently with the influx of new players in 5e, who play much differently than how pre-5e players did. Long-term story based campaigns that take place over rich environments and against multiple enemies is NOT suited for the Ranger, and because many players want that type of campaign, its worse.
Now, there has been many attempts at addressing this. It won't ever get truly fixed until a new edition can come out that massively adapts the classes to align with this new style of play (Warlocks and Monks with their short rest balance also come to mind). However, the Ranger variant features removing the specificity of the base features is a great band-aid. But to pretend there is no problem at all simply means you aren't playing at a table that experiences this, which is honestly the minority.

I don't think you understand what trolling is. Trolling is commenting merely to create a contentious, unproductive debate, which seems to be exactly what you did. My first response was me wondering if you were in fact arguing in good faith, which is not trolling by any definition of the word.
And you've been doing anything different? The reason this argument gets repeated is because nothing has changed in the past 6 years of D&D 5e officially for rangers (yet, that is. It will be changed in TCoE). You've been spouting the same old annoying arguments that everyone on your aisle of the discussion has been making for the past 6 years.
