I will be starting a new long term campaign soon and am going to be playing a Ranger. I wanted to do a little bit of fun arts and crafts and I have made a journal to look like what I imagine my ranger would carry around and make notes about ranger life, creatures, areas, nature stuff, etc... as well as using this for my campaign notes.
I will fill out most of it as I go along in the game, but for the first couple of pages I wanted to pre-fill it with little notes that my character would have left for themselves as like basic ranger/hunter how-to's or reminders.
I’d suggest working with your DM on it. They may have ideas for things you’ve done and seen that tie into the campaign story.
Beyond that, I’d look at it like basically writing my character’s backstory from m the 1st person. So include notes on significant NPCs. Also, if you’ve chosen a subclass, it’s a good place for recording some events or decisions that are putting you on that path.
You can probably find some journaling like activities for kids that go with a national park that is similar to the type of terrain your ranger comes from.
I love the idea of drawing animal tracks - also consider drawings of insects, birds, plants, mushrooms, whatever. Notes about what animals are seen together - for example some animals might suggest other animals are or are not present (including other people). Notes about favorite habitat for animals (or monsters) you want to find or avoid.
I'd have a map.
Rangers get that heavy hunting trap as standard equipment - you could draw it and include notes for setting it up.
Recipes for say their favorite salve or leather conditioner or other equipment maintenance. Or recipes for cooking foraged ingredients.
If there's anything else they make for themself, but infrequently, or might be teaching others about, another candidate for a diagram.

Hi All,
I will be starting a new long term campaign soon and am going to be playing a Ranger. I would love some help coming up with ideas!
Ive always liked little drawings of animal tracks for this kind of thing. Chants for the verbal components of your known spells would also be cool.
