At the moment, I'm still wearing basic leather armor. (don't judge - I have some other amazing gear)
I'm hoping to get some of the Serpentine Scale Armor and I'm looking to get some input on some useful and flavorful enchantments for it.
Some Initial (non-combat) Ideas:
Speech of the Woods
Environmental Adaptation (upon a long rest, the ranger has some advantages to the selected environment TBD)
Hallucinatory Tracts Patch of Land (like a useful version of Hide in Plain Sight)
Telepathy/ Communication with Beast (using Dael Kingsmill rules as inspiration - my beast hatched, i've raised it since and it is a mortal beast that I take care of)
Teleport to Beast's saddle
Armor contains a pocket dimension to store the beast (similar to Vex's amulet)
Basically, I want to work with my DM to make something cool, flavorful and useful. Would love the community's thoughts on this.
Given that serpent scale mail allows full Dex bonus, just why do you think it needs anything else? Granted almost all of us would like super powerful gear, at L14 you should have had 3 ASIs giving you up to a +3 Dex bonus on top of the ( probably) +2 bonus you started with with a 14 Dex, that is +5 +1 for the magic enhancement and a base of 14 for the scale amor for a possible AC of 20. Dos it really need any more? If you just have to have something more then keeping with the theme it grants +1D4 poison damage on one hit each round and a required Con save (8+PB+WB) to avoid the poisoned condition.
I think that with the 2024 Ranger stripping out most of the flavorful yet situational benefits of being a Ranger, I was looking to collect ideas that didn't add more power, but regain some of the lost flavor that some of the previous versions of Ranger tried to implement. Especially with the environmental adaptation. My hope was to use the bastion facilities to enchant the item. Hope that clarifies things.
Given that you’re going to have to homebrew anything like that you might want to think about homebrewing completely separate items. As a DM trying to add anything like that to an item that is already uncommon would automatically make it a rare item and your bastion can no longer make it. You’re wearing clothing under that armor so think in terms of boots, leggings, shirts and hats/caps. As common or ncommon items they would have 1 ability each and would not necessarily call for attunement. say leggings of fast travel - when worn by a ranger these leggings allow the ranger and upto 5 other people within 40 feet to ignore difficult terrain moving at normal speed. or shirt of gathering - when worn by a ranger this shirt magically collects edible plant materials (fruits, nuts, leaves, flowers, roots, shoots, etc ) within 50 feet of the ranger as they move. The shirt can gather enough such materials to feed 6 people each day.

Fair question.
