Basically the title. I'm DMing for a group and one of the members is a Beast Master Ranger. We're using the 2024 (core) rules. When I go to their character sheet -> Extras -> Manage Extras -> Add -> and look through the drop-down, I can't for the life of me find anything remotely close to the Beast of the Land stat block. Or any of the 2024 beast companion stat blocks. How on earth is my Ranger supposed to summon their wolf companion?
I've been just using a regular wolf for the past several sessions, but that robs the Ranger of their beast companion's stats. Is this by design? Is there really no way for Rangers (2024 rules) to summon their companion? I've Googled many times to no avail. Does Maps VTT simply not support Rangers in the 2024 rules? Am I just blind and not seeing it? Thanks all in advance, I'm at my wit's end here.
The problem is that the "Extras" system doesn't have support for dynamic stat blocks — i.e., stat blocks where some of the stats are dependent on the stats of the character who summoned/created them, which includes Beast Master companions.
What I've seen people do in the past is make a homebrew monster that reflects the current stats, and update it whenever the relevant stats change (in this case, whenever the character gains a Ranger level).
The stat block for the 2024 Primal Companion appears on the Actions tab of the character sheet. The entry has a "limited use" field to track companion hit points. There is also an entry for the beast's attack in the attack section of the Actions tab, but this entry does not include the To Hit bonus and the damage is incorrectly listed. (Both are listed correctly in the stat block, however.) I'd recommend adding a custom action/attack to the character sheet to reflect the Beast's attack and damage. This would allow the player to make attack and damage rolls for the beast directly from their character sheet like they would for any other weapon. Meanwhile, the Wolf in the Extras section can still be used by the player to show the location of the beast on the map.
The 2024 Battle Smith Artificer has similar entries on the character sheet for the Steel Defender.
Note that these solutions really only apply to the 2024/5.5e versions of these subclasses. Trying to implement something similar for 2014/5e pets would be much more difficult, mainly because of how damage was calculated in older editions.

I have Darkvision, by the way.
It's not really supported, unfortunately.

Aww, that's a bummer. Just one more thing for me to keep track of as the DM, I guess. Thanks for the answer!

No problem!
