In both versions, the spell lasts for an hour, and includes the language "If the target drops to 0 hit points before this spell ends, you can [use] a bonus action..." If the player maintained concentration on the spell, it doesn't need to be recast. You can move it freely onto a new target on a later turn, even if you use your bonus action on the current turn for something else.
This is correct. The 1 hour duration also means that if you are having multiple encounters in a fairly short time (during a dungeon crawl for example), [spells]Hunter's Mark[/spell] may last through several encounters.

E.g. Attack use Bonus Action to direct Beast of Land to attack kills the marked creature, leaves no Bonus Action to move Hunter's Mark.
Does it fade - and needs to be recast?
Am a DM wanting to advise my players correctly to pay attention to spending their Bonus actions.
