So, the DM for our group made a really powerful homebrew race (I think it's a bit too overpowered). Among it's many powerful abilities is an automatic level in Bard (something about the race being storytellers?) no matter what other class you choose. I'm a Rogue and i was wondering what cantrips and first level spells from the Bard list would compliment the Rogue 5 Bard 1 combination (our DM is pretty open to creative spell using within reason).
I love drow, rogues and Chinese weapons. I mean come on, rope darts are awesome.
My current character is a drow shadow monk, with a "unique" honor code (give him some time, he's working through some stuff). He also sucks on the socialization side of interacting with all other living creatures. which is very fun to RP.
Well first off, Minor Illusion is always a dope cantrip for a rogue.. need a sound distraction, need to hide behind (or in) an illysionary barrel... Minor Illusion!
Not that there are a lot of damage options, but Vicious Mockery is fun for what it's worth... though you should be focusing on finesse weapons for backstab damage. However, a Rogue mastermind can technically provide Advantage to attacks against (Bonus Action) and Disadvantage on outgoing attacks (Vicious Mockery) on the same turn.. which is pretty funny. Technically if you were restrained and tied up, you could still do this!
1st level spells.. Faerie Fire for advantage... Unseen Servant for all kinds of Distractions... Distort Value and Disguise Self for all kinds of Rogue shenanigans.
If you go Arcane Trickster you can also Dump Charisma for Int and take utility Bard spells that don't require a saving throw or attack roll, and just make use of the Spell Slots gained from a full caster class, and apply this to your Arcane Trickster spells
Dissonant whispers is fun! If they fail the save and flee, they prompt opportunity attacks from you and your fighter friends- and if a you and another party member is adjacent to them sneak attack is applicable. That way, dissonant whispers gives damage, fun effects, your fellow players an attack, and your normal attack.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Only spilt the party if you see something shiny.
