I'm looking for some advice on my current build and things moving forward. I'm LvL 5.
I currently have the following.
Dhampir Racials: Darkvision | 35ft walking / climbing speed | Spider Climb | No need to Breath | Vampiric Bite d4 +4 healing or + to next attack.
Stats: +4 DEX | +4 CON | +4 CHA | AC 17 | HP 49 |
Proficancies: Acrobatics | Athletics | Deception | Intimidation | Stealth | Sleight of Hand |
Expertise: Perception | Persusasion |
Swashbuckler LvL 4: Sneak Attack 2D6 | Raukish Audacity | Fancy Footwork | ASI - Duel Wielder (2 Rapiers) +1 to AC |
Fighter LvL 1: Second Wind | Two Weapon Fighting |
I'm divided on whether to focus on Rogue levels for more sneak attack dice, or whether it would be better to dip into at least LvL 3 Fighter for the manuvers like Brace/Riposte to get another sneak attack as a reaction. Action surge seems pretty awesome too. I'm also considering feats like Sentinel. Honestly, I'm just looking for any advice that people have to offer.
A couple of thoughts. 1. If you want a swashbuckler/battlemaster then you should go straight to fighter 3. Get your build going. Waiting to turn on your build is super annoying.
2. Personally I think Rogue 5 is super worth another level of rogue. You get uncanny dodge which you can use just about any round and an extra d6 of sneak. In general ending your rogue progression on an odd level is great since it gets you one more sneak die.
3. I really don't like Sentinel on a rogue and I don't like the interaction with swashbuckler. You want to be alone with an enemy for rakish audacity, and the main way sentinel gets to work is standing next to someone and having them hit your ally. Moreover as the squishy rogue doing backstab damage I have seen sentinel rogues singled out over the fighter standing next to them. Then you don't get sentinel attacks and you are taking damage (and if you delayed uncanny dodge you have less damage mitigation to work with). Sentinel puts you on the front lines and the rogue excels at moving in and out of combat.
All that said you have already mixed in some fighter so maybe you want to be more frontline. One experiment to perform is monitor your fights and see how often you would have gotten a sentinel sneak if you had it. If its less than 1 a fight then its probably not worth it. If it comes up a lot then maybe it is.
