me and my brother started playin d and d about a week ago and I am a level 5 rogue. My brother is dungeon master and now that im starting to play competitive, my brother doesent know what he is doing I think I messed up my charecter when creating him. So I could use some help and tips. Thanks!
Try to rebuild your Rogue so that he or she is not an Human-variant Assassin with the Alert feat. That's D&D 5e's most-cliche build.
Suggest to pick a race that gets +2 DEX at start, preferably with a +1 INT back (such as the Feral-variant Tiefling with Devil's Tongue -- or the High Elf with Fire Bolt), choose the Arcane Trickster subclass, and then get either 4 or 8 Levels of Rogue in order to multiclass to Wizard for at least 2 Levels (probably War Wizard, but Bladesinger is equally-good). For some reason ,Expertise in Arcana just seems like a good idea, especially if you ever run into a Sphere of Annihilation.
Normally people will say to multiclass Assassin with Grave Cleric, but you are going to have way-more fun and do more-interesting things with the Wizard spells, especially if you get any Wizard-specific magical items along the way like Spell Scrolls, Spellbooks, Robes, Staves, Wands, etc.
