Home brew world where race prejudice doesn't really exist. Parents were noble arch mages and he didn't want to be a mage but rather wanted to learn to fight with the sword. Parents didn't approve so he peaced out and become a street rat essentially. Basic rebellious "eff you mom and dad I do what I want" type. But he is educated so he's a pretty clever fellow.
My whole idea with this guy is that he thinks he's a charmer but he's really not. But he is spec'd to be quite the formidable thief. He's a friendly guy and has morals so he'd never steal from the party..he's not exactly robin hood, but he's also not gonna steal from a sweet old lady either. That said, he's a bit of a clepto and has a hard time resisting a good shiny.
My problem is, I as a player, am not overflowing with a wellspring of cool thieving ideas. I'm curious to know how other rogues partake in some good ol' thievin' without taking up too much spotlight, splitting the party, etc. Also just rogue-like shenanigans. Right now, it really feels like all my character does is shit damage in fights, fail hilariously in social encounters, and occasionally pick a lock.
You could be a Robin Hood-type of Rogue, just with less charm. Rob from the rich to give to the poor.
Or maybe your Rogue just enjoys the challenge of stealing. It's not about the possession but about the process of sneakily getting the thing that drives you.
It really depends on what you're stealing and who you're stealing it from. Also begs the question of why? Is there someone who deserves to be stolen from? Would stealing from this person and maybe putting the stolen goods in better hands be beneficial? These are some questions you can ask yourself if you want your thieving to have more meaning to it.

Would love to hear yall's thoughts! Cheers!
Think Catwoman or Oceans 11. Steal for a purpose, usually to stick it to the man or get revenge, but with personal financial incentives.
