Heya! I've recently been working on a lvl 11 rogue character set in a seafaring (pirate) song. This character is a Dex/Cha build whom relies on wit as much much as roguish skill to avoid sketchy situations and tends to place a high value on information and secrets above physical loot (although no one is above stealing a pretty string of pearls ;) ). I see this character as mostly functioning off core rogue features and leaning heavily into social and exploration, possibly to the detriment of combat ability.
I'm wondering which subclass to pick and whether you folks might help me out with that. Any other build suggestions would be welcome as well!
I don't think you can really go wrong with Rogue; Swashbuckler is the obvious one for a pirate, but that would suit a character who wants to be more up front in combat using mobility and sneak attacks directly to the face in full view of everyone. If you want more subtle then Inquisitive or Mastermind could be good fits; Inquisitive has good out of combat utility features, especially around investigation, but is still solid in combat thanks to Insightful Fighting. Mastermind likewise gets a lot of good out of combat features, but the ability to Help from a distance as a bonus action is a really good support ability.
